Richmond World Fish Migration Day
Richmond (RVA) World Fish Migration Day event will take place near Rockets Landing in Richmond Virginia. The event will include a variety of activities including pontoon rides, introduction to fishing lessons, fish art, migratory fish information, and electrofishing. Some activities will require registration and payment, while most will be free. See our Facebook page and below for specific information on individual activities.
RVA World Fish Migration Day Festival
This is a family friendly activity with art projects and hands on activities, and information about fish, rivers, and migration. Live fish will also be available for viewing by 10am. Stop by the festival before or after the Pontoon rides, check timings, and the introduction to fishing.
The event is on rain or shine from 9am – 1pm on May 21, 2022 at 3115 Wharf Street, Richmond, VA. On-site parking is available, no restrooms or porta potty available.
Spirit of the James Pontoon Tour on the James River –
Join The James River Association and our Partners across the Watershed on Saturday, May 21st, 2022 for a global celebration of free-flowing rivers and migratory fish! Take a ride on the Spirit of the James and learn about the migratory fish of the James River in Richmond!
You’ll learn about fish habitats, spawning, and the challenges they face. During the trip, we will have aquariums on board to give you an up-close look at the species found in the James. Parking available at the festival address above.

Introduction to Fishing –
Test your luck and try for the Big One while fishing the James River! Rods, reels, and bait will be provided by James River Park System from 10am to 12pm, Saturday May 21.
Participants over age 18 that wish to fish must have a valid VA Freshwater License; these are available online for $23 at https://dgiflicense.virginiainteractive.org/. Under 18, no license required. Parking available at the festival address above.
Boshers Dam Fishway Tour –
Take a tour of Bosher’s Dam and Fishway hosted and presented by Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources staff. Learn about the migratory fish passing through the engineered fishway and many other aspects of fishes of the James River.
Tours run continually from 2:30 to 4:00pm. Pre-registration requested for this free activity. The event is at a different location than the festival. Location is provided in the registration link.
