World Fish Migration Day is a one day global celebration to create worldwide awareness of the importance of freshwater migratory fish and free-flowing rivers. This year, FHR is celebrating this important event at Gull Pond in Wellfleet.

The Herring Count features Barbara Brennessel’s report on this year’s herring run.

Trace the Migratory Path of the Herring will include John Portnoy tracing the herring run from Wellfleet Harbor to the Herring River estuary’s four headwater spawning ponds. John will also discuss the many impediments to the fish run created by 20th-century development and plans to remove all of them as part of the Herring River Restoration Project.

Visit a Trail Tale inspired by Barbara Brennessel’s book The Adventures of Allie the Alewife. Learn about fish migration by following local artist, Marisa Picariello’s illustrations which will be installed along the entryway.

Children will also be able to make a fish ornament to take home. Refreshments and beverages will be served.
