World Fish Migration Day – Spawning Run in Zurich
Do you know that Swiss rivers have more than 145 thousand barriers (such as dams, weirs, culverts ,etc.)? Do you know that these barriers can affect migratory fish? Do you know which species are affected? Are you aware of solutions that may help to minimize the impacts of these barriers? If you like rivers, fish and fishing, and want to learn more about these topics, join us for the ‘Spawning run’ and enjoy a fun and interactive learning experience.
The ‘Spawning run’ is a 5-km run/walk along the Limmat river in Zurich. The event will follow the migration of many fish that undertake upstream movements in rivers to reach spawning sites and reproduce. Nevertheless, migratory routes are disrupted by barriers and fish need to overcome them in order to continue their migration.
We invite you to join us in a fun and informative event to learn about migratory fish, the inherent challenge to move in Swiss rivers, and the solutions to help fish thrive in human-altered ecosystems. For more information, visit our website: https://wfmdzurich.com/
The event was originally planned to take place on May 21, 2022 synchronised with the World Fish Migration Day celebration across the world. However, locally we will have to postpone it because of permit requirements. Stay tuned for updates regarding the date and apologies for the inconvenience.
