In 2007, at the weir near the Klinkelsche Mill in central Giessen, a new Fish Ladder (“Fischaufstieg”) was opened with an adjoining observation room that offers a view into the underwater world of the Lahn — Das Lahnfenster (The Lahn Window). The observation room is approximately 400 ft^2, and offers a glimpse into the Lahn’s underwater world through windows facing into the Lahn and Fish Ladder. Visitors are able to observe fish migrations and aquatic life in a natural, pure environment.  Several windows also look into shallower water demonstrating where young fish congregate to feed and find protection.
