Capeenpuro Opening Ceremony
We will be celebrating the opening and finished construction of Finland’s new small river Capeenpuro. Capeenpuro used to be a hand dug fish farm water canal. This has been transformed into a creek / small river. Construction started in 2023 and planning back in 2021. We are now happy to be able to open this new area and welcome all migratory fish from the surrounding lakes. Our main priority has been Brown Trout, but this project is about biodiversity, not just one species. Capeenpuro is about 900 meters long and and with it’s side canals and a smaller creek running from the created wetland beside Capeenpuro, we have been able to create about 1.2 kilometers of new streams for the fish to colonize.

Capeenpuro is a biodiversity research project aimed at restoring the wild brown trout populations and other species. We have constructed about 1,2 kilometers of river. we will study how fast nature colonizes the newly built area, and how fast nature recovers from the work done. we will also study how well the new various areas of the river work and are accepted by brown trout, in order to learn more about the habitat preferences of Brown Trout. But also the spreading and colonization of plants and insects will be monitored.
