We are a nature conservation information center called “NaturForum” in the middle of a nature reserve called “Bislicher Insel” at the lower river Rhine in the West of Germany. This nature reserve is formed by the oxbow and the current channel of the river Rhine. Additionally, there are lakes that formed due to mining for gravel. The information center has a permanent exhibition on the plants and animals of the floodplain as well as its history. The NaturForum is situated on a former farm and is surrounded by old orchards. We usually concentrate on birds in our educational programs, as the Lower Rhine is a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. The high number of fish in our nature reserve is evidenced by the many fish-eating birds – from kingfishers to grebes to cormorants to white-tailed eagles. We will celebrate World Fish Migration Day 2024 with a little festival (Die Welt der (wandernden) Fische) – we will have a number of information booths and games on fish and other fresh water organisms. Additonally, we will show the Dambusters movie. We focus on families and offer many opportunities to explore the underwater world of this area and play different games to get a better understanding about fish and rivers.  As we get closer to WFMD, more information on our celebration will become available on www.bislicher-insel.rvr.ruhr (in German only)
