Fish Migration on the Columbia River
Around the world, migratory fish travel between different habitats throughout their lives. World Fish Migration Day celebrates the connections that migratory fishes have with human and non-human species, lands, and waters.
In honor of World Fish Migration Day, our walking trail has transformed into the Columbia River. As you walk along the path, you’ll encounter many obstacles migrating fish face every day! Will you make it to your spawning grounds? Or will you get caught by a fisherman, or stuck in a broken tunnel? The journey is in your hands!

Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery is headquarters for the Leavenworth Fisheries Complex. When built in 1940, it was the largest fish hatchery in the world! Currently, we raise 1.2 million spring Chinook salmon each year. The hatchery is also home to the Mid-Columbia Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, a public boat launch, a tribal fishing area, and over 5 miles of public trails.
Venue
The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Nature Path is a one mile, flat, accessible trail on hatchery grounds. The trail has a variety of interpretational signage and plenty of benches and scenic wildlife viewing locations.
