WFMD 2024 & Cameroon River-Lives Protection Campaign
The WFMD 2024 in Cameroon at the initiative of PEOPLE EARTHWISE (PEW) is organised as both a Sensitisation activity in line with the WFMD Foundation Agenda and an opportunity to mobilise civil society organisations to network and come together for the holistic protection of ‘River-Lives’.
Referred to as ‘Africa in Miniature’ or ‘Africa in its Diversity,’ Cameroon is a land of many major & minor Rivers from its Watershed Mountains and highlands through the plains North, East, South & West with grasslands, forests and lakes, onto its Atlantic Ocean Coast and Marine Ecosystems. Many an administrative governance unit (Divisions of the 10 Regions) are named after Rivers.
Member-Organisations of the National Mangroves & Wetlands Network will be solicited to undertake sensitisation activities about the degradation and threats to Migratory Fish for Rivers like the Logone & Chari, the Benoue, Bui, Mezam, Sanaga, Meme, Ndian, Wouri and many more.
River-Walks, Mass Media Outings, Distribution of WMFD Flyers and participation in the Foundation online event on the 25th of May shall be followed by networking including online & onsite meetings to activate a functional National Working Group on River-Lives Protection in Cameroon.
