Salmon in the Nooksack River watershed rely on healthy riparian zones that border the many creeks and side channels that they use to spawn. Plant trees and shrubs with us along Macaulay Creek to improve this critical habitat for migratory chum, coho, and endangered winter steelhead.

How to Participate

1. Sign up: While registering beforehand is not required, by signing up now, you make checking in at the event super easy! If you are coming in a group, encourage others to sign up as well.

If you are under 18 years old or looking to bring along someone that is a minor, you just need to bring a completed Youth Liability Form for each youth. This form will be required to participate, and we cannot make exceptions. Extra copies of the form will be available for a parent/guardian to sign at the event in case you forget yours or do not have access to printer. Anyone under 14 years old must also be accompanied by an adult throughout the event. Note: even if you have been to an event before, a new form is required every time you participate in a work party.

2. Show up: Parking for this event is at the Mount Baker Senior High School at 4936 Deming Rd, Deming, WA 98244.

Once you park, head to the sign-in station to get checked in and then staff will direct you to the shuttle bus that will take you to the site. Most of time, we can get you on the shuttle and to the site within 10 minutes, but sometimes you may be asked to wait if the shuttle is already dropping off another group. Thanks for your patience!

3. Come prepared: NSEA provides everything you need to participate, but here are some other things to keep in mind:

  • Any necessary tools, instructions, and gardening gloves are provided (XS-XL sizes available).
  • Most sites are wet even if it is not raining so bringing water-resistant/proof layers will keep you more comfortable.
  • Closed-toed shoes are required, and we recommend ones that can get dirty (because they will!)
  • A portable toilet will be available at sites that do not have public restrooms.
  • We strive to provide coffee, water, and light snacks at each event, but if you have additional dietary needs, please bring those with you.
  • A reusable coffee cup and full water bottle are highly recommended to keep these events as waste free as possible!
  • If you have questions about this event or others, please contact Sarah at sbrown@n-sea.org or call 360-715-0283.
