On the occasion of World Fish Migration Day, State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak republic, together with its partners, organizes an event to raise awareness of the need of building fish passage facilities and removal of migration barriers on watercourses.

The participating organizations will present to the media and public a technical fishway on the Turiec River in the inner city of Martin, which serves to restore the fish migration through the lower weir on the Turiec River, which is the first significant transverse construction on the Turiec river from its mouth to river Váh. This is an approximately 250 m long rapid bypass channel with a width of 4 m and a depth of up to 80 cm situated in a modified section of the river in the urban area of the city.

The event will include a presentation of the implemented fishway project, its benefits in terms of nature conservation, fisheries, and achieving the national objectives of the Water Framework Directive.

The event is open to media and public.

Event partner organizations: Slovak Water Management Enterprise, Administration of the Veľká Fatra National Park, Slovak Fishing Association, Council of Žilina.
