Fish passage over the dam of Creva-Tresa River, Italy

In the buildup to WFMD2014, the Luino fish lift was officially opened on 5 May in Italy.

The construction of a fish passage over the dam of Creva-Tresa River, aims to reopen fish migratory routes. This passage has now opened the last barrier from the alpine lakes to the Adriatic Sea. The target species includes Acipenser Naccarii (Italian Adriatic Sturgeon) as well as 10 species of fish included in annex II of the Habitats Directive. WFMD Fiume Ombrone

A meeting with public administrators and scientists about the effectiveness of the modified fish passage and the need of maintenance. This is an historic, monumental dam built in early 80’s to fill coastal wetlands with soil. The dam is still used for a small hydro power facility and stops the run of Mediterranean Shad,  Sea Lamprey and mullets.
