Seven events were planned around New Zealand to celebrate World Fish Migration Day 2020: the Oceania live stream webinar including the Whangarei event hosting the awesome official launch of the event internationally (Well Done Kim Jones, Dave West and Team 😊), Sjaan Bowie (DOC/NZ Fish Passage Advisory Group) getting interviewed and linking in with the Hamilton Event, interviewing Paul Franklin (NIWA). This event brought multiple agencies and groups together to create a public advocacy event to celebrate World Rivers and World Fish Migration Day.

National Institute of Water, Atmospheric Research & Hamilton Zoo

We had a great WFMD event at Hamilton Zoo here in New Zealand. We set up a display of native fish for the day giving visitors the opportunity to meet some of our iconic migratory fish species. Throughout the day we had several hundred people stop by to learn more about our unique galaxiid and eel species. This was the second time that we’ve partnered with Hamilton Zoo for WFMD. It provides a great setting and captive audience for spreading the word about migratory fish!
